Today, Chancellor of the Exchequer, John Healey, delivered his first Budget since taking the office. As part of Budget 2026, Healey announced a wide variety of policies including measures to cut business rates, financial support for Ukraine, and changes to minimum wage.
Tom Brufatto, Policy and Research Director at Best for Britain, said:
“The Chancellor is the latest in a long line of eight tasked with walking the challenging tightrope of balancing Britain’s books, shoring up public and market confidence, funding vital public services and defence systems, and easing price pressures to support Brits with the cost of living – all while constrained by the rampant economic damage caused by the UK leaving the EU.
“The only path to truly fix our economy and bear down on the cost of living, while keeping the UK defended, requires the UK to pursue full membership of our largest and closest market, which would rocket-boost UK GDP by at least £92bn.”
