How much is Brexit really costing us? The Cost of Brexit

Background information: Best for Britain does not have a corporate position on the monarchy but as an organisation which champions democracy and equality we could be asked about it. If so, our position is that electoral reform should be the priority when it comes to constitutional change.

Reactive

  • While we fully understand why some view the monarchy as outdated and undemocratic, we also understand that many view it as an important part of the UK’s culture and heritage.
  • There is a debate to be had about the future of the monarchy but the far more pressing constitutional change needed in the UK is electoral reform which has a much greater impact on everyday life compared to the monarchy.
  • The republican movement in the UK should have the democratic right to peacefully protest royal events and to campaign for an elected head of state. This right was not respected during the coronation of King Charles III and illustrates the dangers of the Government’s Policing Act which Best for Britain campaigned against.
  • Further: Best for Britain does not have a policy position on the monarchy.
