EU membership would supercharge British economy by at least £92bn and generate breadth of opportunities across the UK, campaigners highlight.

In an interview with the BBC, Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England (BoE), said Britain’s economy would benefit from closer ties with the European Union.

This comes after the BoE raised interest rates for the first time in more than three years on Thursday to 4 per cent due to the Iran war and rising oil costs.

Naomi Smith, Chief Executive of Best for Britain, said:

“The Bank governor’s typically measured words are, factually, correct – but what they don’t convey is the scale or energy of the growth rocket-boost on offer from the UK being back at the heart of Europe, and the domino effect of jobs, investment, public services and opportunities it would create for voters the length and breadth of the UK, while helping families and workers squeezed by the cost of living crisis.

“As independent modelling has projected, our GDP would be turbocharged by £92bn, at the very least, turning the page on the economic stagnation of the past decade, and opening up a fresh chapter for our country.”
