- After austerity, 13 years of economic mismanagement and then Brexit, our underfunded public services are crumbling.
- In the past couple of years, the UK has seen industrial action from teachers, train drivers, lawyers, doctors, nurses and ambulance drivers among others. The Government appears to have no clear plan to end the chaos.
- The Government previously had a strategy of sitting on their hands hoping people would blame Labour; this did not happen.
- According to Best for Britain’s Tracker, this government has wastefully spent more than £80bn since 2019 most of the time when Sunak was Chancellor or Prime Minister. If he is happy to spend £120m on vanity projects like the “Festival of Brexit” flop, why can’t he give public sector workers a pay rise?
- The Government’s plan to end strikes with new laws rather than negotiation won’t be successful. They need to address why people are striking because it’s the same reason they can’t recruit teachers and people are leaving the NHS in droves.
- At one point, nurses offered to “press pause” on industrial action if the Government engaged in talks. Their refusal demonstrates that they see it as a political football not an urgent issue for the country.
