How much is Brexit really costing us? The Cost of Brexit

Introduction

The Great Recession of 2008 changed everything for Britain. It was the inflection point at which the economy changed for the worse;  wages stopped growing, living standards stopped rising. But what did rise and grow was inequality, social tension, and widespread frustration. After eight years, this would result in the UK voting to leave the European Union.

It is now clear that the failure to grapple with what’s really holding Britain back is fuelling despair among more and more of the population, delivering people into the hands of extreme political parties – who capitalise on anger to achieve aims of their own. Aims that still won’t fix the misfiring machinery of the United Kingdom.

The problems Britain faces are real, the solutions being offered are false. Our job is to provide the evidence-led answers that fix Britain.

What is Best for Britain?

Founded in 2017 by academics, economists, entrepreneurs, and community leaders, Best for Britain is a network of campaigns and research organisations dedicated to providing the evidence-led answers that fix Britain in an era of declining living standards, low-quality information, and instability caused by the degradation of politics.

Today, we are a team of researchers, data scientists, strategists, and activists driven by a love of our country, and the people that form the nations within it.

We conduct research and polling to help politicians lead debate, not follow it. We design policy for whoever is in government, today or tomorrow. And we give voters the tools to persuade, and hold to account, those in power.
