Write to Protest the Rwanda Plan

Send a letter to your local paper

The UK has been a leader in promoting  human rights and the rule of law around the world. But through the Safety of Rwanda Act, not only does Rishi Sunak overturn an evidence-based judgement from the UK Supreme Court, he also gives ministers the power to ignore judgements from the European Court of Human Rights.

Alongside the clear moral failings of his plan, there is another big problem. After celebrating the return of power sharing in Northern Ireland, the Rwanda plan threatens it with more instability as it allows the UK Government to unilaterally disregard the international law written into the Good Friday Agreement.

Protest against this cruel policy now

Writing to your local newspaper is an effective way of getting the message out in your local community and bumping it up the news agenda. Most local newspapers are part of cross-country media groups which syndicate publication of certain news features, and so your letter may well reach far beyond your local town!

And the best reason? Letters pages are often the first page readers turn to when picking up their local paper. Your letter will be read!

With our template letter, it couldn't be easier. Just follow these instructions:

  • Step 1 - Find the email address for your local paper’s letters page. It’s usually displayed on the letters page itself, or on your local newspaper’s website or in the Contact Us section.
  • Step 2 - Copy the text below and paste it into a new email to send it to the email address you found in step 1.
  • Step 3 - Add your name and address under the text, following any instructions your local paper has given for submissions.
