NEW POLL: Young jobseekers concerned for their future outside Single Market and Customs Union

Best for Britain’s latest poll finds young people are worried about leaving Europe’s Single Market and Customs Union will reduce their employment opportunities. And there are many more British people who think it will damage employment opportunities than those who think it will add opportunities.

Key Results

• Leaving the EU’s single market and customs union in January ranks as the second biggest concern facing job-seekers over the next year after coronavirus.
• 48% of 18-24 year olds think the move will lead to fewer employment opportunities, compared to just 3% who think it will add to their chances.
• 40% of Brits think leaving the single market and customs union will lead to fewer employment opportunities; four times as many as those who think it will increase the number of opportunities.
• The number who thought young people would lose employment opportunities was three times the number of Brits who believe it will help them.
• A fifth of Conservative and Leave voters said they thought the change to the UK’s relationship with the EU was the biggest concern facing job-seekers.

About the Poll

Poll conducted by YouGov. Total sample size was 1,608 adults. Fieldwork was undertaken between 7th – 8th August 2020. The survey was carried out online. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all GB adults (aged 18+).
